The Tale of Tia’s
Out in West Texas, people are pretty particular about their Tex-Mex, so it was no small feat when the first Tia’s Tortillas opened in Dallas in 1984 and enjoyed overnight success. From the moment we opened our doors, Tia’s reputation (and sales) grew like a jalapeno in the hot Texas sun. The fresh hot homemade tortillas were an especially big hit, reputed far and wide to make grown men go weak in the knees.
By 1990, Tia’s had 10 restaurants in Dallas and one in Little Rock, Arkansas. We changed the name from Tia’s Tortillas to Tia’s Tex-Mex but we kept the famous handmade tortillas people still rave about today. In 1993 Tia’s expanded into the southeast market with stores in Alabama, Virginia, and of course Florida.
After several corporate changes, Tia’s Tex-Mex was forced into financial hardship and the country collectively wept. In 2007, Tia’s started anew by incorporating the successes of the past with a new and innovative mindset. This approach has taken Tia’s back to its roots of fresh homemade food and an exceptionally good time.
